Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related museum closures, AMM and WFM have determined that it is necessary to postpone the Museums Evolving AMM-WFM Joint Conference in Milwaukee to a future year. For the safety and well-being of our host community and our members, we will be shifting the in-person conference to July 2021. Official dates will be announced soon.
Answers to many of your questions regarding the postponement are listed below. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us by email.
Will the registration rate for 2021 be the same as 2020?
Registration rates won’t change! If you’ve already registered and are willing/able to roll it forward to 2021, you are all set and don’t have to do anything — your registration will be applied to the new 2021 dates.
Need to cancel your registration?
All requests for refunds must be submitted in writing to AMM at email@example.com. A full refund, less a $25 processing fee, will be granted through December 31, 2020. Registrations paid with a credit card that are canceled more than 30 days after purchase will be refunded by check as soon as possible.
If you must cancel now and plan to re-register for the 2021 dates, we can apply your $25 cancellation fee to the new registration at the time of purchase.
Advertisers, Exhibitors & Sponsors
What will happen with my sponsorship, booth booking or advertising purchase?
We hope that all of our existing conference sponsors, exhibitors and advertisers are willing to make the shift to 2021 with us. We do not anticipate adjustments to exhibitor spaces or program advertising. If you reserved a booth or ad space, your booking will remain unchanged.
If that’s not financially feasible, we completely understand. Please let Charity at AMM know if you can no longer participate, and she will work with you to process a refund or identify alternative digital advertising options for 2020.
- By December 31, 2020 – Full refund less a $25 processing fee
- By March 1, 2021 – 50% refund
- By June 1, 2021 – 25% refund
- After June 2, 2021 – No refunds
What will happen with my hotel room reservation?
All existing reservations have been cancelled by the hotel. An auto-generated cancellation email was sent to guests from the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee. If you did not receive your cancellation notice, please contact the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee to manage your reservation directly.
Conference Program, Sessions, Events & Workshops
Will the conference program change?
We and our partners, host institutions, and committees are still committed to offering a great in-person experience in Milwaukee in 2021! We anticipate that the program will include most, if not all, of the events, sessions, and speakers that our committee had previously planned. And in keeping with our Museums Evolving theme, we will also be adding programming that reflects on our current climate.
A few events, such as the AMM and WFM annual business meetings, will still take place in 2020 virtually. 2021 annual business meetings and awards programs will take place in 2021.
Will any of the sessions take place online?
Our goal is to ensure that aspects of the conference are made accessible to those who cannot attend in person in 2021. We plan to offer a virtual experience, such as live streaming a specially curated “track” of sessions online in 2021. This live-streamed version of the conference will require registration and fees will be announced at a later date.
I am a session chair or presenter and can no longer participate in-person. What do I do?
We hope that most of our sessions chairs and presenters will be able to participate in the conference in July 2021. That said, we know things are uncertain right now and your ability to participate could change in the future. There is no rush to make the decision. We plan to stay in touch regularly, and ask that you confirm your participation as soon as you are able before January 31, 2021.
We encourage you to touch base with your session chair and notify AMM by email if, at any point, you feel it is impossible for you to attend in-person.
Health and Safety Guidelines
Are you planning to require PPE or social distancing at the in-person conference?
Health and safety practices are currently being discussed and will continue to be examined as we countdown to the conference in 2021. We will be adhering to CDC guidelines – whatever they may be at the time of the conference in July 2021.
To ensure the safety of all conference participants, we anticipate that our plans for the Milwaukee conference could include:
- Capacity limits: At least initially, the capacity for the in-person conference will be limited to 300 to ensure that we can accommodate social distancing in meeting spaces. Similarly, evening events and tours will have a set capacity. This number may be revisited closer to conference time.
- Social distancing: We will encourage distancing of 6ft for badge pick-up and onsite registration, meeting rooms and evening events if it is recommended by the CDC at the time of the conference. Breakout room, general session space, exhibit space, and event capacities will be limited and seating spaced appropriately.
- Hygiene and PPE: We plan to coordinate with the experienced events team at the hotel on ensuring that public spaces and conference areas have the necessary personal protective equipment or hand sanitizing supplies. Public restroom space may be limited and masks may be encouraged (must bring your own).
Support AMM and WFM
Can’t attend but still want to help the conference?
We welcome you to consider supporting the AMM and WFM annual operating funds by converting your registration purchase or booth/advertising booking into a gift, which will be shared by our organizations.
